Camp History

THE PAST - A SEED IS PLANTED
In 1974, Alfred and Estella Lahti approached Franklin Street Apostolic Lutheran Church (now Zion Lutheran) with the idea of their property being used as a Bible Camp facility. In 1978 the land was officially donated for this purpose. The Lahti farm with ninety wooded acres and a half mile of Lake Superior shoreline on scenic Rabbit Bay in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan became the Lahti Retreat Center (LRC). Many hours of labor started the transformation of the Lahti Farm into a place where people could commune with God and each other in His creation. "Camp Lahti Carpenters" and others have invested time, talents and hard work into making a sanctuary where youth and adults would retreat, families could reunite and children could be enveloped in God's Word.

THE PRESENT - THE VISION SPREADS
"Camp Lahti", as it's informally called, is a place where God changes lives. By taking time away from the busyness of life to encounter God's Word, many youth and adults learn the truth of Christ and form lifelong friendships at LRC. The Lahtis and many of the original carpenters have passed on, but their dream and stewardship of this land have enabled many to see God's love. Because current structures are stretched beyond their capacity, it is critical for the next generation of stewards to step up and help the vision blossom.

THE FUTURE - THE VISION BLOSSOMS
In order to grow" Camp Lahti" into a year-round facility with the capacity for hosting great numbers at Bible camps, mission training programs, etc, improvements are vital. Over thirty years have passed since the Lahti's vision was planted. To meet the future needs and continue the growth, we need you! Please consider volunteering your trades, abilities, talents, financial gifts and prayers.
